About the Performance

Australia’s iconic band The Whitlams reunites with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra for a powerful symphonic celebration two decades in the making. This enduring collaboration fuses the band’s evocative songwriting with WASO’s orchestral brilliance in an expansive and soul-stirring performance.

WASO shares the spotlight in a richly layered program that traverses the band’s diverse catalogue of musical styles, featuring works by some of Australia’s most acclaimed composers. Among the highlights are two exquisite arrangements honouring Tim Freedman’s friendship with the late Peter Sculthorpe, alongside full symphonic treatments by Benjamin Northey, Brett Dean, Iain Grandage, Daniel Denholm, and Jamie Messenger.

Expect beloved classics like “No Aphrodisiac” and “Blow Up the Pokies,” alongside recently released standout tracks “Sancho” (2022) and the Americana-infused “Kookaburra” (2024).
